It’s All About Me!

~All About Me~
I grew up loving art. I can remember very young having that “knowing” that I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. As a child i can remember visiting my grandparents in the bay area and setting up my “booth” in front of their house, which consisted of a large box with my drawings taped to the front; I think i was charging 65 cents a piece back then, a real bargain! I was happy with tablet paper and glue made from my grandmothers’ flour and water. Winning awards in grammar school and encouragement from classmates seemed to seal the deal for me, but after high school I forgot about my first love and went on to get a “real” job.
I became a hairdresser and have made a wonderful living and life for the past 30 years. I’ve been given a platform to create and have built a great client base and many friendships, but the longing for the freedom and play of art has come back and so i am pursuing it once again. I consider myself a “recovering” watercolorist and have turned to acrylics just for the sheer fun of it. Anything goes with acrylics, they are not fussy, they dont care what kind of mood your in and they play well with others (other mediums of course) I’ve had many local awards and have taught watercolor, collage, and drawing. I have shown at various art hop locations. I am currently a member of the San Luis Obispo art center where I enjoy taking workshops.
I also conduct workshops at my home studio. My workshops are geared toward fun, spontaneity and freedom to be yourself.
~All About My Artwork~
I’m inspired by color, design, and words.
I believe words have power, meaning and beauty. Design gives the painting movement, and color has many moods.
I use tissue paper, assorted various decorative papers, and acrylic paint. I layer the papers and paint until I feel the painting comes together. Sometimes I work without the papers, which gives the work a spontaneous feel. All paintings are on canvas and coated with a final glaze to protect the painting.
I generally start with an idea, a feeling, combination of colors, a poem or grouping of words. The painting then continues to evolve as I pay close attention to where the painting wants to go. In the end a finished painting appears and I am always amazed at the process with which it comes into being.
I feel the creative process is much like that of giving birth. There are stages that lead to the final painting and there is a certain timing that I wait for. Beginning with an idea, a thought, small fragments of the imagination merge with larger ones. As the excitement builds, I wait for the right timing when enough has built up inside that I feel it must come out. There is almost a frenzied action that takes place next as all the pieces begin to fit together…This is what I call the labor part of the process, and lastly the painting is born.
At that moment, there is a tremendous feeling of joy and I feel as though I’ve been given a gift…

beautiful work, have to get to fresno to look in person. “the surfer guy”
